CALL FOR APPLICATION for the BASHKË ART CAMP 2018 now open!
The Rete delle Case del Quartiere and the Gjirokastra Fundacioni are pleased to invite you to participate in the CALL FOR APPLICATION for the BASHKË ART CAMP 2018! We are looking for artists, designers and architects who want to take part in an artistic residence in the historic center of Gjirokastra in Albania, to design public art operas that redevelop abandoned spaces in the city, in collaboration with local artisans.
BASHKË ART CAMP 2018 is one of the actions of the Bashkë: let’s create our spaces! project, that born in the international Tandem Europe exchange program. We want to involve organizations, professionals and citizen in a process of mutual learning and sharing experiences, crossing borders and developing together a “place to be”.
We are looking for seven motivated, passionate and creative candidates who will take part in the BASHKË ART CAMP 2018 as a highly motivated, passionate and creativity-driven group. We are looking for people who are interested to work closely with the local community in order to co-built an urban regeneration project with selected artisans and craft masters from Gjirokastra, who work in the redeveloped buildings of the historical center of the city. Through guided tours and meeting with locals organized by the Gjirokastra Fundacioni, participants could discover places and traditions, meeting citizens and artisans of textiles, wood and stone, in order to co-create a public art project .
BASHKË ART CAMP 2018 will take place from 9th to 16th September 2018 and will involve seven participants, selected through the CALL FOR APPLICATION. Participation is free and offers:
– food and accommodation for seven days, hosted in traditional Ottoman houses in the historic center of Gjirokastra;
– bus transports from Tirana to Gjirokastra (and from Gjirokastra ti Tirana);
– materials for the realization of the project.
The organization will fully cover the travel expenses for two international artists identified by the jury in the selection phase. The other five selected have to paid travel expenses by himself.
The artistic projects will be presented during the National Fair of Crafts and Heritage 2018 which will take place from 14th to 16th of September 2018 in the city center. Every year more than 100 organizations from all over Albania and Kosovo take part in activities for three days in the Old Town and the Medieval Bazaar in Gjirokastra. A cultural event that enhances the different aspects of the heritage of the country, showinf art and craft, from performing arts to food.
How to participate in the CALL FOR APPLICATION of BASHKË ART CAMP
First of all, download and read the OPEN CALL FOR BASHKË ART CAMP.
Download and fill out the application.doc (in English only), with your data, a motivational letter (max 500 words) and a description of your work methodology used in the field of public art and spatial redevelopment (max 500 words).
The application.doc, with curriculum vitae and portfolio (max 10 MB), must be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on 20th August 2018. The subject of the e-mail must be “BASHKË ART CAMP participation “, followed by the NAME and the candidate’s SURNAME.
Participants will be selected by a jury comprised of three members of the organizing institutions, of different profession, sex and age. Selected participants will be contacted via email and/or call by 31th of August 2018. Outcomes will be publish on this web page. The selection decision is in the undisputed opinion of the jury. By submitting the application form, candidates undertake to agree with the jury’s decision.
The BASHKË ART CAMP participants are finally here!
On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, the selection of the participants who will take part in BASHKË ART CAMP came to an end. The high quality of the Open Call Applications, which closed on 20 August, prompted the Bashkë Organizing Committee to increase the number of participants of the BASHKË ART CAMP 2018. Selected participants are 14 artists from Germany, Kosovo, Serbia, Albania and Italy who will arrive in Gjirokastra in September.
